Report of Green Tree Progress 1950

The Village of Green Tree was incorporated in October of 1947 and has been growing since that time.  A city council form of government was set up and at the present time Jack Parnell is serving as mayor.
This past year the Village was able to build a fire station for the fire truck that was purchased in 1949.  The fire department is made possible by the State aid from State Insurance Commission, amounting to $4000 annually.  There is a well organized volunteer fire department with Fire Chief Gene Gay leading the organization.
In 1950 a fire proof jail was built.  There is also an anteroom used for city council meetings and as a court room.
Bonds have been voted in the amount of $72,000 to intall a new water system which will include adequate fire plugs all over the area, a reservoir, a chlorinator and a new concrete house over the spring to insure pure safe water for everyone.
Funds are being raised by the ladies of Green Tree Civic Club to build a Community House for recreation and community meetings.  This project was started in 1950.
Traffic signs and caution lights have been put up to help protect property and lives from speeding motorists.
The merchants up and down the area have combined their efforts and means to provide the village with police protection, a Justice of Peace and a Police Judge for law enforcement.
Five years ago there were only a couple of stores, now there are at least twelve or fourteen business houses here besides two large sawmills and a planing mill providing employment for many men.
The residents of the Village can now obtain their drivers licenses at the Office of the Village Clerk.
Now there are approximately 400 residents and about 100 children of Green Tree board the buses for their respective schools daily.
The citizens of Green Tree are proud of the their progress in 1950.
